On the Freedom Trail, 2008 (excerpt)
Performed in front of the State House in Boston, On the Freedom Trail confronts and challenges issues of poverty within the United States. The statements heard throughout this performance were taken directly from comments posted by users on YouTube – no alterations were made. By voicing these anonymous comments, this piece addresses the power of online anonymity asking the passerby to listen and take notice of the attitudes and complicity that permeate our culture and structure society. An unexpected encounter with homeless individuals quickly highlights the human elements of inequality while being “on the freedom trail.”
